The Northern Alberta Railway Park should be one of your first stops on a visit to Dawson Creek. The NAR Park is where you’ll find the Dawson Creek Visitor Centre, so you can get your bearings. Pick up some maps and other information there about local sites of interest. The Visitor Centre Gift Shop contains plenty of souvenirs related to Mile 0 and the history of Dawson Creek.
The NAR Park is also home to the Dawson Creek Station Museum and the Dawson Creek Art Gallery. Stop by the Stone Cairn Marker in the southeast corner of the park, to see where the Alaska Highway really begins. There’s plenty of parking to accommodate all the visitors, and you’ll also find pay phones and public washrooms at the NAR Park. It’s a great spot to park and take a walking tour of the downtown area.
