No Ordinary Wednesday at Municipal Government Day!
May 29, 2012
Get to know your community better tomorrow at Municipal Government Day. In both Grande Prairie and Fort St. John festivities will be happening from 4 to 7pm to showcase city facilities, public works programs all while having some fun.
In Grande Prairie, city employees will be grilling up a free BBQ and families can enjoy bouncy castles, a petting zoo and local entertainment in the amphitheatre. Most exciting will be the opening of a time capsule that was buried 50 years ago to commemorate the opening of City Hall in 1962. According to archives from The Daily Herald Tribune the contents may include various city documents such as a parking ticket and a water bill.
In Fort St. John there will also be various city displays, family activities and local talent. In celebration of Arbour Day residents will receive a ‘Carmine Jewel’ cherry tree for their front lawns at a subsidized cost.
Municipal Government Day is a hugely successful event that brings residents together and instills community pride; while informing residents on community programs and initiatives that further make our cities better to live in.
