Greatest Show in the Peace

dawson creek stampede, dawson creek rodeo, dawson creek exhibition, peace region, peace region rodeo, rodeo, greatest show in the peaceThere’s a feeling in the air. Maybe it’s the smell of straw and livestock. Maybe it’s the ebb and swell of voices as crowds wander from exhibit to exhibit to see people young and old demonstrate their skill and craftsmanship. Maybe it’s the roar of the crowd as young men and women dish out all the excitement you can handle, eight seconds at a time. Maybe it’s what we like to call the “Greatest Show in the Peace” – something that’s equal parts rodeo, agricultural fair, and party.

That’s right, it’s August, and that means five days of the biggest agricultural fair, exhibition, and stampede this side of Calgary. From August 6 - 10, for the 92nd year in a row, Dawson Creek will play host to innumerable craftsmen and women, livestock breeders, agricultural representatives, cowboys, and cowgirls from Peace Country and beyond for a celebration of our agricultural way of life.

The agricultural fair and exhibition has exhibits from some of the region’s top producers and artisans. Categories include 4H, sheep, goats, light and heavy horse, and bench exhibits. The trade fair and demonstrations will also be going on all week.

The stampede has everything you could want in a rodeo - from World Professional and Western Chuckwagon racing, to steer wrestling and team and tie-down roping, from saddle and bareback bronc, to barrel racing and bull riding. And if you’re tough enough to help kick breast cancer’s butt, you’ll be tough enough to wear pink at some of the “Tough Enough to Wear Pink?” sponsored events throughout.

And hey, if it’s a party you want, Dawson Creek has that, too. West Coast Amusements is providing the midway attractions, and you’ll want to stick around into the evening for live music on the Sound Stage and at the Watering Hole, with featured artists Chris LeBlanc, Karen Lee Batten, and Redneck Rockstars.

Tickets are available by the day or for the full week, but you’ll want to book your hotel or campsite in advance - last year more than 27,000 people stopped by to see the “Greatest Show in the Peace” and this year is shaping up to be bigger and better than ever. See you there!
