A Maven of Song
Mar 19, 2013
Maeve Mckinnon has been paying her dues, singing across Scotland since her late teens and has slowly emerged as one of the leading Scottish folk musicians of her generation. With her repertoire including both Gaelic and English-language lyrics, Maeve has been able to find a happy medium between traditional and contemporary tones.
After releasing her solo album ‘Don’t Sing Lovesongs’ in 2007, she eloquently blended the two languages for what would become an acclaimed first album. Nominated in multiple categories, she won ‘Up and Coming Artist of the Year at that year’s Scots Trad Music Awards.
This year, Maeve released her second solo album, ‘Once Upon An Olive Branch’. It features traditional Scottish and Irish traditional songs and her first recorded original number, the title track.
Maeve Mackinnon displays a gloriously-enriched vocal range and maturity. It is rare that Mackinnon has an opportunity to tour and Peace Country residents should take in the prowess of this international songbird.
Maeve is playing at the North Peace Cultural Centre tonight, March 19.
