From the rocky Atlantic shores of Newfoundland, The Irish Descendants will be making their descent on Grande Prairie tonight, March 1, at the Great Northern Casino. The band has made their way to the top of the Eastern Canadian Folk/Roots music scene by performing music that is much like the province itself - rocky, energetic, un-predictable, and unforgettable.
Formed in 1990, the band has been a mainstay in the Newfoundland and Canadian music industry for over two decades, performing in over 4000 shows across North America.
The Irish Descendants have a down-home acoustic sound that draws on Newfoundland’s rich traditional heritage with links to the old world. With thirteen studio recordings in their repertoire, the music of the Irish Descendants is known for rollicking upbeat tunes perfect for kitchen parties.
Over the years, the descendants have had remarkable experiences, such as being selected to perform for the 500th anniversary celebrations of the discovery of the Island, performing for Her Majesty the Queen of England, as well as playing for the heads of state for Ireland and Spain.
