Latin Heat in January
Jan 21, 2013
James Keelaghan and Oscar Lope,z otherwise known as Compadres, have been doing fusion since before fusion was deemed trendy.
For Oscar Lopez, his Latin groove has made him stand out in the world-roots music scene. Embracing all genres, Lopez often incorporates jazz, blues, and pop into his music. For James Keelaghan, he pulls inspiration from the many songs he collects and composes, many of which are narratives and tell captivating stories.
It is a special occasion when these two musical talents come together; both are multiple award winners, including notable Juno wins. Blended together, they describe their music as 'celtino', a distinctive blend of Celtic and Latino flourishes that create an entirely new hybrid.
Touring on and off as the Compadres since 1993, the duo is back after just finishing a successful winter tour in Australasia, they have released a new album featuring the same zesty beats and celtino flavor as its predecessor.
The Compadres have vocals that resonate with passion and guitar riffs that are intricate and captivating. If you are ready to feel the celtino sizzle, the North Peace Cultural Centre will be hosting the Compadres on Friday, January 25th.
