Tee off for the Star of Life Golf Classic
Sep 4, 2012
As summer seems to be coming to an end faster than anticipated, golfers of the We Go North region are racing to local courses in and attempt to get in as many rounds as possible before the snow flies.
This Friday, September 7th, will be the perfect opportunity to swing your clubs for a good cause with the 13th Annual Star of Life Golf Classic.
The golf classic, which has been held since 1999, is in honor of Shawn Waldron, a vibrant 19 year old young man who passed due to cardiac arrest.
Since then, it has been the Waldron’s family’s mission, in participation with the Regional EMS Foundation, to educate the public about sudden cardiac arrest, CPR training, and advocate for the placement of AED’s (Automatic External Defibrillators) throughout our region.
Remarkably, the program, known as Heart Safe, has been picked up by Alberta Health Services and is in the process of going provincial. REMS Foundation organizer Laura Lavalley comments that, through this tournament, “We are making those important life saving tools available for those who need it most."
Organizers of the Star of Life tournament are hoping to fill all of the spots this year and are still accepting registrations.
This is an absolute great way to spend some time on the green all while supporting a life saving program; an event that is fun “fore” everyone!
