Horses, Wagons and Cowboys: The Chuckwagon StoryGrande Prairie February 19, 2017
Sunday, Feb 19
1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Exhibit runs for the remainder of the year.
In partnership with the Grande Prairie Stompede, special guest Bernie Benson, the first Stompede Queen (known then as Stompede Sue), officially opens the exhibit with a ribbon cutting at 1 p.m.
Ribbon cutting is followed by guided tours and questions with Charles Taws, Curator with the Grande Prairie Museum, light refreshments and children’s crafts and activities.
Free novelty cowboy hats are available to the first 50 people to view the exhibit, courtesy of the Grande Prairie Museum.
This new exhibit takes visitors through the history of how the chuckwagon developed from the field kitchens they once were to the high speed racing machines our western communities enjoy today. Guests explore the chuckwagon’s role in popular culture, their historical development and the influence of Grande Prairie and Area on chuckwagon racing throughout the world.
